I went to a fantastic event at USC last night where Laurie Stone, Associate Senior Vice President for real estate and asset management, talked about the development of the USC Village. She alluded to (but did not break down) all the extortion that goes on when doing a big project in Los Angeles but it was amazing to hear about all the things that they are forced to do just to build on their land. This will be a huge residential and retail extension of campus, no financing, retail to open Jan. 2017 and dorms in August 2017. Great event for real estate alumni (real estate developers, real estate attorneys, finance people and more) at USC.
Scheduled to open in 2017, USC Village is the largest building project in university history, and the most expansive development project in the history of South Los Angeles.
Alumni real estate professionals gathered for the USC Alumni Real Estate Network’s event, which offered an industry insider’s look into the USC Village project. Laurie Stone shared the latest updates on the USC Village and told the (still ongoing) story of the project through an industry lens: entitlements, retail space bidding process, labor agreements, etc.
