Embrace Uganda: Mission Trip to Kaihura, Uganda
I just returned from a two week mission trip to a small village in western Uganda. A group of 14 of us stayed at an orphanage and worked with the village on a number of projects, including dentistry, a pastor’s conference, a marriage conference, carpentry, a Sunday school program for kids and installing mosquito nets in homes in the countryside.
The orphanage, Bringing Hope To The Family, supports orphans from a couple of months old to 18 years old. The older boys are learning farming and carpentry while the girls are learning sewing and crafts.
Even with very modest material goods and simple housing, the orphans are full of smiles and faith. We showered by filling a bucket with water. We ate food that they had grown and picked. Our entertainment was singing and sharing, often in candlelight. Their sharing, their singing and their smiles really moved me. The fellowship with the Ugandans and the others on my trip really strengthened my faith and made for an unforgettable experience.
